Sunday Stroll - Clinging to November

The world seems bleak, brown and gray,
at first glance, but beneath the maples,

the vinca is evergreen.

Sycamore leaves and seed balls (achemes) fall,

Buckwheat seeds cling to delicate stalks,

and a few last grape leaves

cling to the vines.

Milkweed seeds catch the wind and sail away.

A few radish blossoms open gently,
pushing back against the chill.

A few dying leaves cling to the young plum trees
in the northeast corner of the garden,
while elsewhere buds are forming for next year's leaves.

In the garden, all is calm. The air is still.
We match our pace to the breath of the earth,
moving slowly and quietly
across the still-green grass.

Take a deep breath,
and when you exhale,
let your wishes take flight
in these last days of November.

Where ever you are, whatever the weather, I wish you peace.

Sunday Stroll Invitation

“When we look up, it widens our horizons. we see what a little speck we are in the universe, so insignificant, and we all take ourselves so seriously, but in the sky, there are no boundaries. No differences of caste or religion or race.”

― Julia GregsonEast of the Sun

Our time in nature provides perspective, don't you agree?

If you have time this week for a Sunday Stroll, to gain or adjust perspective, please post about about it on your blog and then come back here with a comment and a link to your post. You may use the Sunday Stroll button at the top of this post on your post or side bar if you would like. I will add participant names to this post so other strollers can walk through your "neck of the woods"  too. I'll check back often and try to keep the list updated.

Sunday Stroll - First Snow

The maple leaves that blew into the herb garden are
covered with snow this morning.

Still, the snapdragons bloom despite the chill,

and the last few roses cling to the vine,
reluctant to let go of the bountiful season.
It was the most beautiful autumn I can remember.

The water hoses are stored away,
the garden "tucked in" for the winter,

and we walk more briskly now,
head down, shoulders braced against the wind.

Mabel thinks it is too cold.
"Let's go in," she asks with a pleading glance.

Where ever you are, whatever the weather, I wish you joy.

Sunday Stroll Invitation

Sunshine is delicious,
rain is refreshing,
wind braces us up,
snow is exhilarating;
there is really no such thing as bad weather,
only different kinds of good weather.

Sunday Stroll Invitation

“But there is always a November space after the leaves have fallen when she felt it was almost indecent to intrude on the woods…for their glory terrestrial had departed and their glory celestial of spirit and purity and whiteness had not yet come upon them.”

Sunday Stroll Invitation

I was away overnight and most of today, so didn't have a chance to post a stroll invitation.  Steve over at Out on the Prairie graciously extended the invitation on his blog.  I hope you have all been outside and appreciating nature.  November so far has been a warm and generously colorful month in my corner of the world.

Where ever you are, whatever the weather, I wish you joy!
