Sunday Stroll Invitation - Extension

“Live in each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink,
taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influence of the earth.”

This has been a whirlwind weekend!  So glad Steve at Out on the Prairie was able to stroll, because I haven't managed to squeeze in a long, slow walk. You don't want to miss his post!

I am offering an extended invitation this week.  If you take a long walk and blog about through the week, please comment here and I will add a link to your stroll.  My Sunday walk may occur mid-week this week! Would love to see what is glowing and growing in your neighborhood.

Wherever you are, whatever the weather, I wish you the joys of late September.

Two for Tuesday

Misumena Vatia , aka Goldenrod Spider

Honey Bee

The sun is brilliant today, so there is a lot of shadow and light in these photos.
If you enlarge them, the detail and beauty of these two garden helpers is more noticeable.

Where ever you are, whatever the weather, I wish you beautiful light.

Sunday Stroll: Wild Apples for Breakfast

On a fine late summer morning,
shall we run down through the meadow
where the asters are laughing beneath a cloudy September sky?

We will find hints of Autumn's approach,
over our heads,
and beneath our feet.

And if we dance for joy when we find an evening primose
blooming in the early morning light,
no one will care.
The flowers in this windswept meadow
have been known to dance along.

Before we head back to the house,
let us linger near a favorite tree.
Perhaps we will pluck an apple or two
to take back to those we love.

Where ever you are, whatever the weather, I wish you all the wild, sweet joys of September.

Stroll Through My Day With Me

The skies this morning changed from blue
to gray

and back again in the two hours that I waited for the flea market to open.
The first few costumers were talking about a double rainbow
they saw over the lake on their way in.

I set out some baskets of produce
and chatted with my friend and flea market partner
all through the morning and early afternoon.

When I got back home,
I had to hurry into the garden to tend to chores.

Feeding time:

Quick garden tour:
 Uh oh!
Invasion on the wild milkweed
that I left in place for the monarchs.

Uh oh again!  I picked a wheel barrow full of tomatoes,
but we are not the only ones on the farm who enjoy them!

The golden rod is a comfort in these busy days.
It's rich hues hint of summer's end and autumn's approach.
The whirlwind of harvest and preservation will ease
and before we know it,
we will be tucking the garden in for the winter.

For now,
I will enjoy the skies,
and the blooms,
and the events
of late summer days.

Where ever you are, whatever the weather, I wish you joy.

Sunday Stroll Invitation

“Now shall I walk or shall I ride?

'Ride,' Pleasure said;
'Walk,' Joy replied.”

If you have time this week for a Sunday Stroll, please post about about it on your blog and then come back here with a comment and a link to your post. You may use the Sunday Stroll button at the top of this post on your post or side bar if you would like. I will add participant names to this post so other strollers can walk through your garden too. I'll check back when I get home from my morning at the flea market selling produce, and make a list of those who strolled!

Tranquility

Harvest is in full swing, with autumn just around the corner.  Already the nights are cooler and I've wrapped up in a sweater a time or two.  We have watched the northern lights on an early September night, wide eyed with wonder and wrapped up in afghans.

We have planted an autumn crop of sugar snap peas.  Salad greens to carry us over until frost will go in tomorrow.

We spent Labor Day on one of the beautiful lakes nearby, where we sailed like a northern wind over the surface, as the deep turquoise tranquility of the water soaked into our souls.

Wherever you are, whatever the weather, I wish you joy in the journey.
