Sunday Stroll Invitation

"Everyone must take time to sit and watch the leaves turn."

~Elizabeth Lawrence

If you have time this week for a Sunday Stroll, please post about about it on your blog and then come back here with a comment and a link to your post. You may use the Sunday Stroll button at the top of this post on your post or side bar if you would like. I will add participant names to this post so other strollers can walk through your garden too. I'll check back as often as I can and try to keep the list updated.

Sunday Stroll - In Two Part Harmony

Early in the afternoon, I walked close to home... enjoying the blue sky and green fields.

While I waited for my daughter to get off work, I took another walk in town. On this warm afternoon, the little breeze off the bay that never lets one forget this is a harbor town was a welcome companion on my long walk through the village. Some of the seasonal residents have already left town, as children return to school, but there were still teenagers laughing and the rush of the roaring river filling the air with sound.

Ah! A place to sit for a while and rest in the shade near the river's edge.

Where ever you are, whatever the weather, I wish you comfort and joy.

This will be our last Sunday Stroll of Summer 2009. There are so many signs of Autumn's approach, but I hope to catch a few last glimpses of summer as I walk today.

Sunday Stroll - Time of Purple and Yellow Flowers

I remember reading once that some Native American's called this time of year "The time of purple and yellow flowers." I've never again found the written reference, but I remember it each year as the wild purple asters and goldenrod take over the fields. What follows is a haphazard meander through gardens and wild edges.

Where ever you are, whatever the weather, I wish you happy wandering.

Today is my 3 year blogiversary. If you are interested, you can read my very first Quiet Country House post here. More importantly, yesterday, Limerick and I celebrated our 22nd wedding anniversary!

Monday Muse - Cloudpainting

Our skies have been so beautiful lately, with fat soft clouds brushed with color in the mornings and evenings. Watching them, I have been reminded of a favorite cartoon moment from my children's earlier days. In this clip, which I was glad to find on youtube, the characters in the 100 acre wood are trying to cheer Eeyore up. As each character tries to make Eeyore happy, they choose an activity that they love, thinking Eeyore will love it too... but they don't really understand Eeyore's preferences. If you don't have time for an almost 5 minute clip, slide the bar over to the 3 mintue mark and watch from there and you will see my favorite part.

Special thanks to my mom, Cloudhands, for encouraging cloudpainting (though we didn't call it that) from my own early days of childhood.

Sunday Stroll - The Sweet Stuff

What I notice most in these waning days of summer is not the flowers, though they are still blooming sweetly, nor the colors, though they are especially intense and vivid. What I notice most is the quality of the light. The way the sun slants through the sky to pour, nurturing and warm, across the earth takes my breath away. Having said that, I will let these few images of my late afternoon walk speak for themselves. The last is a short film of a hummingbird at the butterfly bush. Sadly the camera I borrowed today does not have a sound feature for video, so you will have to just imagine the hum of the ruby-throated hummingbird's wings.

Where-ever you are, whatever the weather, I wish you beautiful light.

Sunday Stroll Invitation

"September days have the warmth of summer in their briefer hours, but in their lengthening evenings a prophetic breath of autumn. The cricket chirps in the noontide, making the most of what remains of his brief life. The bumblebee is busy among the clover blossoms of the aftermath, and their shrill and dreamy hum hold the outdoor world above the voices of the song birds, now silent or departed."
~ Rowland E. Robinson, Vermont.
