Sunday Stroll - Last Sunday of October

Let's take one last October stroll.

The road side is lined with crisp, ripe apples,

and bird berries,

and wild grapes.

My strolling buddy keeps a bit ahead of me!

Where ever you are, whatever the weather,
I wish you a long, lovely walk
through these last days of October.

These photos were an experiment with my new phone.  They do not have quite the definition of those taken with my camera, but you can still get a feel for the beauty of this autumn afternoon
in these northern hills.

YOU are invited

Walking is the great adventure, the first meditation,
a practice of heartiness and soul primary to humankind.
Walking is the exact balance between spirit and humility.

-Gary Snyder

If you have time this week for a Sunday Stroll, please post about about it on your blog and then come back here with a comment and a link to your post. You may use the Sunday Stroll button at the top of this post on your post or side bar if you would like. I will add participant names to this post so other strollers can walk through your garden too. I'll check back often and try to keep the list updated.

Always the first to stroll, Steve has his post up already.  From the first photo to the last, this post celebrates the beauty of Autumn Out on the Prairie.

Sunday Stroll -

Time seems to stand still at the lakeshore,

and yet, the evidence of time's passing is all around us.

Where ever you are, whatever the weather,
 I wish you joy.

Sunday Stroll Invitation

"Delicious autumn!
My very soul is wedded to it,
and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth
 seeking the successive autumns."
~ George Eliot

There aren't nearly as many Sunday Strollers as there used to be...
at least on this quiet little blog!

But, a stroll in autumn?  Who can resist?

Sunday Stroll - October Sings

of trees and sky,

of amber light that rises.

October sings

of next year's trees

and last year's corn,

of things forgotten,

and things reborn.

Wherever you are, whatever the weather, I wish you all the beauty of October's Song.

Steve was strolling through the October prairies. Look Out on the Prarie for his wonderful photographs.

Sunday Stroll Invitation

October is the fallen leaf, but it is also a wider horizon more clearly seen.
It is the distant hills once more in sight,
and the enduring constellations above them once again.
~Hal Borland (1900–1978)

Sunday Stroll - Looking High and Low

Went strolling with my oldest daughter this afternoon.
We found beauty in the skies above us,
and on the ground beneath our feet.

Where ever you are, whatever the weather,
I wish you beautiful surroundings and good company.

Sunday Stroll Invitation

"The time of the falling leaves has come again. Once more in our morning walk we tread upon carpets of gold and crimson, of brown and bronze, woven by the winds or the rains out of these delicate textures while we slept.

But in October what a feast to the eye our woods and groves present! The whole body of the air seems enriched by their calm, slow radiance. They are giving back the light they have been absorbing from the sun all summer."

~John Burroughs, "The Falling Leaves," Under the Maples

Sunday Stroll - Bejeweled

When we step into the garden on this first Sunday in October,
we will find autumn clinging to every leaf and flower.

Night rain will linger in the garden
long past noon.

The world will glisten beneath
skies of mist and shadow.

The fragrances of earth and harvest

will weave through the garden,
inviting us to stay.

When at last we go indoors,
we will sip warm mugs of tea
and look through the windows at
the comfortable beauty of October.

Wherever you are, whatever the weather, I wish you comfort and joy.
