Poetry Thursday - Enough

IT IS ENOUGH

It is enough to have this morning's day
The sky swept clean by stars' adventurous light
That garnished earth and gave the animals
Freelancing songs and stillnesses of night.

We share the entire wealth of calendars
That hold the love of earth and happy heaven
Marking our own spot in centuries
Writing our own labors in our own love given.

It's quite a legacy to have charge of Time
To tick the meaning of the endless ages
Custodians of streets and roads and houses
Spelling our own names on our own pages.
Speaking our deeds and hopes on holy earth
Entrusted to us at our lucky birth.

Thank you for the powerful poem. I long for more poetry.
The day is done. I'm fat and happy.
Now for sweet December. Bless you, good friend.

You are welcome Pom Pom! I have posted one other poem by this poet, quite some time ago. I'll try to add a link to this post. I do find her poems powerful, in a gentle way, and thought-provoking.

I'm feeling fat and happy myself. Way too much apple cake. lol!

December is a very busy month for me, with three birthdays in the house and all of the holiday "hooplah" as well as final exams for this semester. I'm tired just thinking about it.

Bless you too, Pom Pom, and thank you for visiting again!

I guess the comment didn't get swept away!
I like "custodians of streets and houses" and I'm thinking the beauty of poetry is the "aha" I feel when a poet puts something I feel into words.
I remember December study and writing paper after paper. I'll be thinking of you! It's all going to pay off when you have your classroom full of kids! I still can't believe I did it. I'm proud of you for doing it, too. It really is such a joy to learn, though. I could take classes forever. I want to get an MFA through one of those fancy low residency programs, but then I remember that they cost a pretty penny! Oh, to write and read and collaborate with poets and essayists . . . fun, fun, fun! You have many fun jingle bell birthday celebrations this month! Happy!

I feel like one comment somewhere got swept away... but not this one! :D

Thank you for all the feedback and moral support. I love my online teacher/blogger friends. How inspiring you all are!
