"You and I can turn and look at the silent river and wait.
We know the current is there, hidden, and there are comings and goings
from miles away that hold the stillness exactly before us. What the
river says, that is what I say." ~ William Stafford
Out past next year's firewood
and beyond the grape yard
through a door of golden light in a cedar wall
I peek in at the mushroom laying yard.
All is still.
I walk along the cedars, past the tree where crows roost.
There were no crows here when we came, nearly a year ago.
I am grateful the crows have returned to play their role
in keeping nature whole and balanced.
Ahead lies the trail into the woods.
Sunlight and shadows,
dimples in the snow,
a wild meander of animal prints.
The wind leaves her mark here too,
in wind-dance patterns on the snow.
Elegant, elongated tracks lead into shadow
and to the quiet edge of the dark water swamp.
I look toward a stand of slender silver maples.
All is still.
My feet crunch on the snow.
The sun pours silent golden music down through the trees...
the Song of Spring Approaching.
Wherever you are, whatever the weather, I wish you golden music and the joys of spring.

Hello my dear,
So good to see your name pop into sight today.
Sending warm love across the miles,
Sharon
Words and images are beyond lovely. "Dimples in the snow." Love.
Oh, Sharon! Thank you for returning my visit. I have missed this shared form of journaling, and missed my kindred friends.
There should have been a tiny short video of the stillness of the maple stand at the end of my post, but my technology refused to cooperate! lol. So glad you enjoyed the stroll.
Your woodsy photos are always so lovely. Yes, it's time to reintroduce Sunday Strolls into my weeks!
It felt wonderful to walk slowly in the quiet woods today. I know you will find joy in your strolls, as well. Thank you so much for visiting, dear friend!
Your prose and photos brought such a lovely sense of calm to my day, Aisling. So lovely. Thank you for sharing your stroll xx
Leslie, I'm glad you found a sense of calm in my stroll. That is what I find in my walks in nature. :)
Ohhhh Aisling, I am so happy to see you posting here again. I have missed your posts.
Blessings,
Yaya
What a lovely interlude in my busy morning.
Tabor and Yaya,
Thanks for checking in on my stroll. There is so much comfort and renewal to be found in nature. It feels right to be sharing that again!
A Sunday Stroll! Yay hooray!!! Will you have a little icon as before?? And btw, I really love crows. I will try and begin mine, linking to you. I am beyond happy that you are really back.
Aisling, a busy week and I missed this post.
So happy always to read your sharing.
Nan and Ernestine,
Thank you for coming by to see my stroll. And, Nan, yes the icon is still on my sidebar, and I included it in my invitation, though I forgot it on my stroll post. I need to remember how to keep the invitation at the top of my blog all day long so that my stroll doesn't displace it. Hmmm... It only Blogger didn't keep changing its set up!
