In August I Am

In August,
 I am
a barefoot walking
blackberry picking
meadow singing
sky gazing
wave flowing
early riser.

In August,
I am
AWAKE!

This is an I am" poem similar to one I had my students write. They wrote a simpler, more generalized poem comprised mostly of adjectives they believe describe them. I set my poem specifically in August, because I feel that I change and flow with the seasons. So, this is me immersed in August.

If you would like to share a brief I Am poem in the comments, or link to one on your blog, I would love to read it!

Where ever you are, whatever the weather, I wish you abundance.

Special thoughts go forth to you....

Thanks, Pom. We had fun writing poetry and will try an "I am from" poem sometime soon. I think this type of writing helps students learn to be more reflective.

In August I am slow
I am a barefoot

Salt-sweat browed

Of the first
Clues of autumn.

Your lovely poem says it all.
I am
luxuriating in early morning sunshine
watching the swallows gathering on the wires
eating honey for breakfast
feeling the cool soft grass
under my feet
cutting down the raspberry canes
watching the bees working their way
round the flower heads
picking the fallen apples
trying not to get stung by wasps!

Elaine, oh thank you for joining in. Your poem is wonderful! So descriptive I could see it all happening. I just love that early morning sunshine!

Thank you, Sandra. I think August always passes in a blur for me, so this year I decided to slow down and notice and appreciate it!

In August I am...

enjoying the sun-warmed wind in my hair,
the cool, green grass under my feet,
the sunlight streaming through the trees, glinting on the leaves,
the quiet embrace of the empty woods and the peace that I find there,
the muddy stream running through the valley,
the uncut, faded grass in the meadow where wild flowers grow each summer
and the ecstatic freedom of my beautiful, bouncing, bounding, young yellow Labrador as she keeps me company on my walk.

Happy August!
