It is a Gossamer Morning

Of mist and glistening dew

Of silver threads

And veils of light.

Today we are having a family gathering here at the farm. I am looking forward to the sounds of storytelling, laughter and acoustic guitar filling every nook of the house. We will harvest from the garden, cook together as a noisy crew in the kitchen, and walk together in the quiet sanctuary of the woods. These are the best of days.

Where ever you are, whatever the weather, I wish you the very best of days.

Autumn Rising

There are still four weeks of summer
In these northern climes,
But tell that to the chill morning air.

Tell that to goldenrod
Waving autumn's banner.

Tell that to the maples
raining color on the trail.

In the slant of light...

In the brisk flight of clouds,

There is a clear tilt toward autumn.

Thank you to all who shared an I Am poem for August in the comments of my previous post. There was some wonderful writing!

Where ever you are,
what ever the weather,
I wish you all the joys
of this slow roll through the seasons.

In August I Am

In August,
 I am
a barefoot walking
blackberry picking
meadow singing
sky gazing
wave flowing
early riser.

In August,
I am
AWAKE!

This is an I am" poem similar to one I had my students write. They wrote a simpler, more generalized poem comprised mostly of adjectives they believe describe them. I set my poem specifically in August, because I feel that I change and flow with the seasons. So, this is me immersed in August.

If you would like to share a brief I Am poem in the comments, or link to one on your blog, I would love to read it!

Where ever you are, whatever the weather, I wish you abundance.

An Unexpected Guest

Wherever you are, whatever the weather
I wish you the joy of holding nature in your hands
and of letting nature hold you.

August in Pictures - Thistle Down

Wherever you are, whatever the weather, I wish you joy in ordinary moments.

There are many reasons to adore August...

Sunflowers blooming.
Beach days like yesterday.

Stormy days like today.

Walking through
the rain-washed meadow.

Blackberry picking in the rain,

Or taking shelter
beneath a fragrant cedar tree.

Where ever you are,
whatever the weather,
I wish you a bountiful August.

Saturday Snapshot

As I sit outside on this first morning in August,
I hear wind in the leaves of five thousand trees,
Bird song, squirrel chatter, and the staccato thrumming of partridge wings.

I see light washing over the wide blue sky and spilling all through the garden.

I taste wonder and fresh country air.

I smell sage and a tangle of mint and the warm, sweet arrival of August.

I feel sunlight on my skin and cool earth beneath my feet, and a wild surge of gratitude rising within.

Where ever you are, whatever the weather I wish you a heart full of gratitude.
