Sunday Stroll - Water Colors

This afternoon, Haiku and I wandered around at the marina, quiet and forgotten for the long winter months. Shades of gray seemed to dominate the color palette, but other colors are there if you look closely... pearls and teals and, if you look up, precocious blues.

Two swans napped on the shore, completely ignoring a solitary seagull. Jonathan Livingston, I presume...

In the summer... goldenrod, Queen Anne's Lace, and milkweed bloom amid the rocks. Children race down these walkways to the sugar-sands just over the rise to dip their toes in the cool lake water. In the summer, in the shelter of the harbor, teens tan themselves beneath a golden sun and swim amid the whitecaps that rush in from the open water. But for now, in the pale silver sunlight of February, the choppy waves meet a blanket of snow at the water's edge, and there is no-one at the shore but Haiku and I.

All the pics are beautiful, but for some reason, that set of steps and the photo with the dock just draw me right in. Love 'em.

City Mouse, Thanks. I think my daughter took those two. There was a little overlap in our phototaking (and we used the same camera) so I can't be sure.

dear aisling, as always, lovely....I particularly love your words as you tell the story of this beautiful place! I think my favorite has got to be those beautiful swans with the little gawky sea gull....and the one that looks like a beach but I assume is actually snow....I don't know where you live, but it must be on the east coast and very cold!!

It all looks so serene. I'm especially fond of the first picture. It seems to me the buds are swelling and giving a wonderful red haze to the branches. I love that stage when we are given the promise of the spring pastels that announce the deeper summer tones.

LOVE the colors of the sky and sea. . . and the solace, too!

Linda, Thank you. I like the swans and seagull too. We are on one of the great lakes. It is way east of you, and northerly and, yes, very cold here!

Mom/Cloudhands,
The willows keep that halo of gold around them right from the autumn. I'm not sure what type the one in the photo is, but the glow of color makes it seem softer than the others (in the last photo) with their stark, bare branches. Soft or stark... they are all beautiful! It certainly was serene at the marina today.
