Inspiration

One thing that really inspires me these days is on-line radio, such as Pandora, GrooveShark, or Dizzler. We live in an area with a fairly limited number of radio stations, and though I like a couple of them, the online outlets allow me to select from a broader range of music. Generally, I log onto to pandora.com, to access one of several stations I am building for myself. I have one just for studies with baroque style music, but I also have an old-school punk station and some newer alternative on another just-for-me "station."
I also like logging into a band's myspace page and listening to whatever they are streaming there. I've got a little Spoon playing right now... very unproduced, pretty low key, perfect for my evening of cooking and taking it easy.
What inspires you... musically speaking?

I like Pandora, too. Lately, my favorite music is piano played by Yiruma. I have a classical play list I like, too. I also found some kids music about fairies that I listen too while I exercise. Maria Sangiolo has a fantastic voice. Great post! I really think you should enter my wand contest, Aisling!

Pom Pom, Thanks for the input. I'm going to have to check out Maria Sangiolo's voice. I have such an eclectic taste in music. :)

I'm coming by to see what your wand contest is!

Let's see how my old fashioned taste stacks up against you young whippersnappers.
I like early rock and roll and Mo-town. Classical and a litttle light jazz. Music from the Big Band era and folk music. For comfort and nostalgia I head for good old southern gospel. I actually like most music and only balk at anything where I can't easily understand the words and music with a lot of clashy screaming sounds. When I listen to music and close my eyes and watch the scenes appear I get the most from the old masters of classical music.

I like all those things you mentioned too, depending on my mood... but then I like clashy screaming sounds too sometimes. lol.

Thanks for the input. Have you checked out Pandora, or any of the online radio platforms? It is sort of fun to build your own personal station. I love my baroque station for studying.

We just started listening to on-line radio for kids, called Jitterbug; they have some great tunes.

Hmmm . . . other sources of inspiration? Well, bloggers of course, like this site. I love "being" with other folks who share interests with me. I learn a lot here.

I, too, adore Pandora! There I can be as eclectic as I like and have discovered some wonderful new-to-me music!

Jessica,
Jitterbug sounds really fun. I'm amazed at the difference in media from my oldest daughter's early childhood (she is now 19) to my youngest son's (he is 6.) Oh how things have changed.

We can even log on to Youtube to watch Laurie singing "We are the dinosaurs." Do you know that one? My little guy loves it. :)

Rapunzel,

I know what you mean about finding new artists. That has happened to me too, and now some of those "discovers" are loaded on my ipod. I have really eclectic music tastes too, so am loving all the new options!

I adore Pandora. I always joke that it keeps me honest ... refreshes the spirit and it's a great tonic to be able to listen to my favorite types of music.

We finally got wireless/highspeed internet in early May and Pandora was one of the immediate benefits of that change. Hard to enjoy good music on dial-up. A few bars... buffer.. a note or two... buffer... enigmatic segment of lyrics... buffer. lol

My musical tastes range rather far and wide. From early Brit-punk and 80's and 90's alt-rock to mainstream rock & roll to baroque (esp. Purcell, Handel, Vivaldi) to the classic ballet scores to great classical composers newer groups in various genres. And all sorts traditional music--Celtic, Gaelic, Breton, Acadian....

About the only styles I don't much like are country and rap and most hip-hop, although even there I could find exceptions.

Margaret,
You sound similar to me in that regard. Even in the musical styles that I don't prefer, there are songs that I like, or an artist or two. Love that early Brit-punk stuff and 80s and 90s alternative. Those are some of my favorites. :)
