Monday Muse - Blue Zones

Some time ago, I read about Blue Zones, places on earth where people live the longest. I discovered their website recently and have been enjoying their series of videos about Ikaria, Greece, the most recently discovered Blue Zone. It is fascinating to consider the reasons for longevity as one compares the various Blue Zones. In particular, what fascinates me is the deep sense of connection to friends and family that most of these long-lived persons experience. It is a common thread between the various regions, though they are scattered across our beautiful planet. The video is a great introduction to the study of Blue Zones.

If you have some time to explore, here is a link to the website:
http://www.bluezones.com/

The blue tab labelled "Ikaria" will take you to the series of short videos about Ikaria, Greece that I have really been enjoying.

Isn't spring break GREAT? I love it! I find this blue zone stuff fascinating. I'll check it out deeply when I have some quiet. Right now, the outdoors is beckoning me. I hung the bird feeders and just one chickadee has found her way to the song bird seeds! Are you going to write a poem this week? How about a sonnet? Thinking of you at your home beside the big lake . . . (HUG!)
Oh, we are reading The Adventures of Ulysses at school and we are catching glimpses of Greece. Fun!

Pom Pom, Spring Break is great! I am glad to think that I will still get to enjoy it once I am employed as a teacher.

I may write a song or a poem or a sonnet this week... I'm trying not to plan it all out. I have been tidying my front porch today. Like you, the outdoors is beckoning! :)

I guess it makes sense . . . deep connection, when that means love, helps us to live longer. I get that. When you feel more loved, you want to keep living, to keep loving.

What do you think? Do you think it is simply environment/culture?

Hi Aisling,

I'm finally finding the time to go blog-visiting again - I always love your Sunday strolls.

I have an interest in the blue zones as well - I first heard about it from Dr. Oz. Thanks for providing the links.

Happy April!

Alison, It's nice to see your comment! I have to play catch up with blog reading sometimes too. It is hard to keep up with all of the blogs I like. :)

Hello dear one,

Thank you for introducing me to "Blue Zones." I can really understand how when you're surrounded by family and loved ones and not cut off from life you have a REASON to stay on earth.

Sending love and spring wishes,

Sharon,

How nice to wake up to a note from you this morning just as the sun is peeking over the eastern hills, through hazy clouds. Another beautiful day has begun!

Thank you for coming by and for the lovely note!

love and hugs,
