Patience Rewarded

the gardener waits
the bud softens with color
the flower unfurls

~ a haiku, by Aisling, July 17, 2008

These photos, which I took today, are of the Asiatic lily Cannes, one of my favorites (aren't they all?!) In the background, the orange flowers are asclepius, or butterfly weed. Love that too!

*grin* I can't really take credit for this lily being so beautiful. But I am glad that it grows in my garden.

Thanks for the visit!

O MY GOODNESS! I am swooning too :) I wish I could grow those. Does it have that lovely fragrance too?

Linda, Can't you grow lilies there? I'm going to have to smell this one again tomorrow to answer you. I don't think it has much of a fragrance at all. That would be the total package though, wouldn't it?

Mandie, It seems like as each flower blooms for the first time that season, I think "Oh yeah, I love this. It's my favorite." Then I think it again with the next. *grin*

Thanks for visiting, friends!

The flower is beautiful but the Haiku struck something in me that I am experiencing at the moment. Someone gave my mom a plant and for over a week now it's had a bud and we've watched it and watched it. She can't remember what it is and we have no idea what it is going to look like and every day, there it is the same. My grandmother used to say, "A watched pot never boils" and I've been thinking "A watched bud never blooms!" I'm going to check it out today before I leave for the campground. My gardening patience is wearing thin, lol.
The lily is beautiful and I love the close up and I love the Haiku as well. Thanks for sharing both.

Robbin, Thanks for your note in response to my haiku. Sometimes I think that haiku is the fine art of stating the obvious (at least when I'm writing it) but there is such a moment of calm in writing and reading it. Haiku actually remind me of a photograph - a little "image" of what a moment was like.

Can't wait to hear what your flower turns out to be. I hope you share a photo. :)
