The Moon in the Morning...

My thoughtful friend Nan sent this poem to me just this week. I wrote it several years ago in April and shared it with some list friends. She thought I might like to share it here, before Spring officially ends (though it feels like summer in my locale already!) So in keeping with Poetry Thursday, here it is. Last year I took this photo of the moon over the lake in the very early morning. The resolution doesn't look as crisp here as the photo does on my computer, but hopefully you get the idea (maybe we can think of it as an artful mistiness!)

Spring Joys

I love to see the moon in daylight;
A wisp of silk stitched to the sky.

I love the scent of unseen flowers,
Urging me to find them hiding
In the moss-paved bowers in which they lie.

I love to hear bright sonnets of birdsong
And the feather-soft whisper of wind.

I love to warm a child's chilled hands,
To kiss the same cheeks the rain has kissed,
And taste the springtime on that apple-blossom skin.

Thank you, Rapunzel! It's a cool thing, isn't it, seeing the moon in the morning? It isn't really that unusual, but always kind of unexpected anyway. :)

Love your poem aisling. Have you had any published? I'm a poetry lover too but kind of picky about what touches me and what doesn't. Your words flow just right and makes me feel what you are feeling.
Thanks for sharing that.

Robbin, Thank you for such a nice compliment on my poem! I haven't really had anything published (unless you count the Goodfellows Newspaper in 5th grade, and the high school yearbook! *grin* ) but have always loved to write.

Thank you! :)

Lovely poem and picture- although the poem didn't require a picture at all, it was quite vivid on its own... the picture was just extra eye candy. :-)

Lizzie, Thank you; how kind you are! I always like to include a photo, perhaps just to provide that eye candy you mentioned. lol!

Nan, I'm so glad you did too. Thank you for thinking of me at just the right moment! :)
