To Resolve or not to resolve...

I'm never sure whether to make a New Year's Resolution or not. Pondering the concept of a resolution to guide my life through the next twelve months, I penned the following stream-of-consciousness acrostic poem.

Resolutions Illuminated

Resolutions are
Easy to make, but also
So easy to break. Only a life
Lived simply, with
Understanding and
Tender regard for the
Innnocent and vulnerable
Only a life where
Notice is given to
Small things, makes sense to me now.

Instead of resolutions, I now
Live moment by moment,
Letting nature's grace
Untangle years of good intentions.
Moving slowly, and
Intentionally, I go forward,
Noticing as much
As I can of this beautiful world;
Travelling upon the Earth as an
Eager guest, respectful and interested, and
Delighted to be here.

Most of the times I've written about "resolution" on this blog, I've been writing about the clarity of a photograph. If you're interested, you may look here for some of my previous thoughts on resolution, both intentions and clarity.

Beautiful! I didn't make resolutions, I made plans! For our pantry cabinets, an apple orchard, a berry patch, a chicken coop, and a bird/bee/butterfly garden!

I love these thoughts! I've always personally hated the term resolution and preferred goals instead. Resolution implies resolving a problem where as goals are something we strive for...

Abbie and Kathie,

I tend to think in terms of goals as well. A resolution almost seems like a box you lock yourself into. We need to be more flexible, I think, because we can never know what lies ahead. Goals, on the other hand, are a direction to move in... mindfully and thoughtfully. I hope you both make fulfilling progress toward your goals this year!

Thanks for the positive response to my post. And, Happy New Year!

Lovely poem and thoughts. I don't make resolutions but have a list of things I will be doing in the future.

That is perfectly wonderful, my friend! I love it. What is the picture of?

Nan, Thank you! :)

That is some piece of farm equipment on our neighbors farm. My daughter and her friend took a walk there yesterday and photographed it, but I'm not sure of its function. I will have to ask my neighbor!

I'm feeling agriculturally illiterate at this moment! *grin*
