Let me add that your stroll does not have to be in a garden.  Any natural setting where you walk will do!  I think I will be forest-walking today.

Only a few things are blooming, but the tiny leaves are emerging from the dark haven of the earth where they have slept through the winter. Now, they are stretching towards the light. Slowly, I will walk through my yard and garden into the light, stretching my winter-weary body, looking closely to see what nature has to teach me.

On this last Sunday in December... this last Sunday of the year... I will take my final garden walk of the year. Later in the day, I think I will enter "Sunday Stroll" in the search feature of my blog and walk back through the circle of the year via my garden photos each Sunday since early spring. I am hoping for a January thaw in 2009 that will allow me the sight of a few green leaves, and a few green tips pushing through the cold earth. In the meantime, I am faced with a very blustery Sunday... with snow whipping through the air on strong winds.

My camera isn't working well today, so I hope I am able to post some new images myself! Right now there is a little lull in the garden, as spring bulbs are fading, and the summer flowers are just beginning to set their buds. A slow unfurling is taking place... leaves unrolling, buds swelling, flower stalks rising... as the garden quietly waits for the warmth and brilliant sunshine of the summer. Despite the sedate pace, the garden is new and different each day.

Sunday Stroll - Beneath the Snow

It is nearly 40 degrees Farenheit here today. A quick erratic breeze is teasing the stalks of last year's growth. The snow still covers our fields, but little patches of earth are showing now. New growth is beginning... bits of tender color peek out of the snow. For the first time in weeks, I grabbed my camera and took my Sunday Stroll.

How is April rising in your neighborhood?  Here in the cool north country, on the edge of Lake Michigan, we have blue skies and gently rising mercury.

I have a crafting class to attend in the middle of the day, so anticipate a late afternoon or early evening stroll. If you have a chance to get outside... even just a few moments in your own back yard.. I would love to get a glimpse of your Sunday Stroll.  If you leave a comment here about a Sunday Stroll post on your own blog, I will share a link on mine this evening.  I love the idea of nature lovers all over the world sharing in the excitement of what is blooming, growing, creeping or flying.

Sunday Stroll Invitation - Nature in Your Neck of the Woods

What is your walking habit?  Do you park far away at the mall and "hike in?" Do you walk through your neighborhood on sidewalks?  Do you walk the same route over and over again?  Do you seek out new locations to hike as often as possible?

Sunday Stroll Invitation - Last Sunday of Winter

No winter lasts forever; no spring skips its turn.

This is officially the last Sunday in winter.  Evidence of that is clear, where I am.  There are patches of snow on the land, and bits of ice in the water, and yet, the chives are two inches tall and green sorrel is peeking up beneath the decaying leaves remaining from last autumn.

I am finding only a little time for blogging, or gardening for that matter, while I am enrolled in a very intense summer Economics course. I have two mid-week posts in draft form on my computer right now (Ruth, I will respond to your nice award eventually!) The one thing I just have to squeeze in is my Sunday Stroll... not only the blog post, but more importantly, that quiet, slow-paced walk through the garden. It is raining this morning, but I will be waiting for a break in the rain to get outside with my camera.
