"Look closely. The beautiful may be small."
~ Immanuel Kant
Beneath the blushing canopy of maple buds,
through the wet mass of last autumn's leaves,
new growth is rising.
Plush new leaves of silvery mullein,
and spikes of dandelion greens,
rise near cucumber-scented burnet,
and the feathery first leaves of Queen Anne's Lace.
The already thorny rosette of thistle swells near the swamp,
while field daisies push up through vibrant moss,
along side wild strawberry,
and sweet clover.
The moss grew slowly through winter,
and is lush and verdant in the early days of spring.
Tiny bugles of lichen celebrate the arrival
of warmer air and silky fog;
Spring has nestled in to the woodland.
Wherever you are, whatever the weather, I wish you joy.

Easter Greetings,
I strolled over here via Cate's blog..Beyond the Fields we Know...I see you live in Michigan and that's where I am from. What city/town do you live in? We moved away from Michigan in the mid 70's to the Pacific NW but we go back every year to visit family and friends. And I left my heart on the shores of Lake Michigan...Ludington to be exact! :)
Chris (from Gig Harbor, Washington)
Chris, I live north of Traverse City, Michigan. Have lived in Michigan my whole life, but was raised in a little town north of Detroit. Moved to these northern hills over twenty years ago. How nice to meet you! Thank you for coming by, I will see if you have a blog so that I can return the visit. :)
Great pictures! I would not even know that I am looking at all these spring and summer plants. Neat to see these plants when they are so young.
It's so amazing to me how being in different parts of the same country, our worlds outside look so different. It seems there Spring is just waking up and here, we're expecting 80's all week so it's feeling more like summer than spring.
I was especially intrigued by your silvery mullein.
It has taken a lot of years in the woods and fields to get to know these plants in all their life phases. I love learning about them! :)
Deb, Hot down there! The mullein leaves are very soft, sort of like Lambs Ear, if you are familiar with that.
Thank-you for the nice reply...I don't have a blog but you can e-mail me at christinalfrutiger@comcast.net...would be fun to chat Michigan for a bit! Hope to hear from you! :)
Wonderful photos Marcie! So lovely to see everything coming to life. The smells must have been lovely too.

Everything just smells fresh! It's wonderful!
I hope as word gets out about the importance of dandelions to honeybees, people will learn to love them!

I probably know them both very well. We travel all over northern Michigan...(up north) and of course down state as well.
