March Photo A Day 7 - Delicate

“It always amazes me to look at the little, wrinkled brown seeds
and think of the rainbows in 'em," said Captain Jim.
"When I ponder on them seeds I don't find it nowise hard to believe
that we've got souls that'll live in other worlds.
You couldn't hardly believe there was life in them tiny things,
some no bigger than grains of dust, let alone colour and scent,
if you hadn't seen the miracle, could you?”

It is not difficult to find delicacy in nature.  At this time of year, the ice is a delicate lace on the swift flowing current of the creek.  Buds, newly emerging, are tender and delicate. In the dawn light, on mild days, the breeze is a delicate touch on your upturned face.

However, with fierce gales blowing across our inland seas today, it is hard to photograph anything delicate outdoors.  So for today's photo prompt, I opted for tiny seedling onions, growing in our indoor light-boxes. This is how we get a head start on our short growing season.  Hard to believe these threadlike wisps, so tender and delicate, will be large golden globes by mid-summer.

The circle of life seems intact as a gardener.  Down in the root cellar, we have onions from last summer, which we still cook with daily.  In the kitchen and master bedroom, in cabinets painstakingly crafted by the farmer, protected from the vagaries of weather and circumstance, we have new onions emerging. In spring, these will be transplanted, one little ribbon of green at a time, into the garden.

A thorough post on our seed starting process coming soon!

Robin, Thank you! It is supposed to be windy for several days with cold to follow. Ugh! Looking forward to the next warm snap. Hope all is well out your way!

I had a huge wind blowing here, it was howling loud

I imagine it picks up speed over the prairie the way it does over the lakes!
